Trinsic raises $8.5 Million in Seed Round

Happy Birthday Trinsic! 🎉

Today marks 3 years of helping governments, banks, insurance companies, automobile brands, startups, and many more organizations across the globe build the future of identity. We’re honored to be the infrastructure of choice for dozens of customers which have collectively deployed user-controlled identity products to over 100,000 end-users. We’re also grateful for the connections made in our developer community, the social impact happening in the Identity for Good program, and the collaborations with have with our partners around the world.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce our $8.5M seed round which will enable us to double down on what we’re best at: powering innovative identity products.

The Funding News

The $8.5M seed funding was led by Georgian with participation from institutional investors Kickstart Seed Fund, Founder’s Co-op, Osage Venture Partners, and Forward VC, along with incredible builders and angel investors such as Jon Gelsey (Founding CEO, Auth0), Frederic Kerrest (Executive Vice Chairman, Co-founder & COO, Okta), Austen Allred (CEO, BloomTech fka Lambda School), Travis Jarae (CEO, Liminal), Tyler Hogge (SVP Product, Divvy), Sterling Snow (CRO, Divvy), Hessie Jones (CEO, ArCompany), Jonah Goodhart (CEO, Moat), Dan Goldsmith (CEO, Tendo), and more. The round is the largest of its kind in the decentralized identity category.

As we dug into the decentralized identity market, Trinsic kept coming up as the leaders,” explained Tyson Baber, lead investor at Georgian. “Our R&D team had built a proof-of-concept using Trinsic before we were even introduced. Having first-hand knowledge of the product’s quality, coupled with the team’s vision for building a network of verified, user-controlled data, made partnering with Trinsic an easy decision.”

As we dug into the decentralized identity market, Trinsic kept coming up as the leaders.

We are using this new capital to expand our team and accelerate our vision to make digital identity as widely adopted as credit cards. We’re currently hiring in engineering, product, sales, and developer relations. Come join our team! You can find out more by visiting work.trinsic.id or our LinkedIn page.

The Need for Decentralized Identity

“Humanity is sending people to space, editing genes, and developing AI that can write better blog posts than I can,” said Riley Hughes, co-founder and CEO of Trinsic. “Yet, I still can’t even prove my legal name is Riley Hughes – let alone anything else about myself – digitally. Decentralized identity will finally solve this. We’re fortunate to have a front-row seat as our customers and partners bring that future a step closer to reality every day.”

While decentralized identity is in high demand, developers face a dizzying number of standards to be compatible with—“SoulBound Tokens” and “Web5” being the latest additions to the litany of W3C, ISO, DIF, ToIP, and other existing specs. Trinsic offers teams a single API that acts as an abstraction layer that bridges ecosystems, strips complexity away from the development process, and ensures products are future-proof.

The Trinsic Approach

We’re building infrastructure for user-controlled identity products. Developers use our easy-to-integrate SDK to build fit-for-purpose identity wallets or embed verifiable credentials into existing applications. We consistently hear the following feedback from our customers:

  1. It’s Easy. We focus on handling complex decentralized protocols so you don’t have to. Our easy-to-use SDKs, documentation, and developer tools allow you to spend your precious developer time on product development rather than re-inventing identity infrastructure.
  2. It’s Privacy-Preserving. Leveraging decentralized technologies and principles of self-sovereign identity, we ensure the user is always in control of their data and privacy.
  3. It’s Aligned. As an infrastructure company, we only succeed when you succeed. So everything from our pricing, to our support, to the way we future-proof our platform, is focused on making your product successful.
